See a doctor: In rheumatic diseases, mouth sores are not uncommon. Topical agents such as Lidocaine can numb the sores. There are topical steroid creams that can help. Some people benefit from oral Valtrex (valacyclovir) for ulcers if started early. You also need to make sure it is not something else such as thrush which could change taste and would be treated differently. Salt water may help otc meds usually numb the ulcer.

Canker sore cocktail: Due to your pending test results, contact your doctor before trying the following cancer sore treatment. Rinse for 10 seconds with an equal mixture of maalox stomach medicine, liquid benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and chloroseptic sore throat medicine. Next place a small amount of salt on your finger and hold it against the sore for ten seconds. Repeat 3-4 times a day.
