Is lactaid safe for babies?

7 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Not lactaid...: Babies under a year should be fed either breastmilk or formula. There are several formulas that do not contain lactose. If the child does not tolerated a milk based formula, you can try a soy formula or a formula such as alimentum or nutramigen. If you are breastfeeding, you can try removing dairy from your diet. Always discuss changes in formula with your baby's pediatrician.

Yes: Lactaid is the name of both a line of dairy products and the commercial enzyme product (lactase) that some people need to digest lactose sugar. It was once available in a liquid form & breast feeding moms could use it to aid their infants. Lactaid milk is ok for babies that have moved off the breast or formula at a year and have some lactose intolerance.
