Milk: Most doctors recommend breast feeding until 1 year, if not formula, then whole milk after 1 year, low fat milk at 2 years. Lactaid is only needed if your child is lactose intolerant or if you have a strong family history of lactose intolerance.

12 months: You can start whole cows milk. You can switch to skim after age 2 unless obesity is a significant concern. Discuss this with your pediatrician.

Cow's milk: You can give your baby cow's milk at 1 year old. If your baby is not lactose intolerant, he does not need to be on lactaid.
