A member asked:

My 19 month baby is lactose intolerant so sh3 is on lactaid ordered by her doctor, now she pushes & nag when she has bowel movements, how can i help her?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Increase fiber: You need to increase her fiber intake so that her stools are softer and easier to pass. This has nothing to do with her being on lactose free milk, except she now doesn't get diarrhea from the lacotse, so stools are more formed. Also ensure plenty of just plain water every day. If despite these things she is still straining, talk to doctor about MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) to help soften stools.
