Not likely: Ggt is a more sensitive test for early liver damage. Sgpt/ SGOT reflect hepatic cellular (parenchymal) injury, which is often late in the course of disease. Be sure to check a hepatitis profile with midly elevated lft's. A fecal sample for ova and parasites is also helpful in regions with endemic vectors.
