It is possible: This may occur if the ovaries are not well seen. However, if the ovaries are well seen on the ultrasound cysts should be apparent and not "missed". The ovaries are usually best imaged on transvaginal ultrasound with a transducer in the vagina. However, good images of the ovaries can often be obtained with the transducer on the skin in thinner patients with a full bladder.
