Is group therapy effective?

6 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Group therapy: Group therapy can have different formats, unstructured, unmonitored all the way to structured and directed. Depending on the participant's goals in the group, a certain format will be more helpful for you. Simply being part of a group with other people who understand your experience can have profound benefit. Seek online & ask your insurance for group opportunities.

Group Therapy: Yes it is quite effective but it can be very threatening if not initiated slowly after a time in individual therapy with the same therapist who will lead your group sessions. Best.

Group therapy: For certain clinical conditions, and for some patients, yes, group therapy can be VERY effective. As an example, veterans often respond well to group therapy.
