You can't: Generally only trained professionals can determine the type of pink eye you have. Most cases of pink eye are caused by viruses and are self-limited - that means they get better without treatment, like a cold does.

Your doctor will be: better trained to differentiate. Pink eye is conjunctivitis. It can be caused by things like viruses (common cold), bacteria, allergies, foreign body in the eye & chemical exposures.
