If you're on prednisone, is it possible to be near someone who has strep throat?

Maybe: A short course (5 days) of oral steroids will not cause any appreciable suppression of the immune system. Chronic use of oral steroids can cause enough immune suppression to put you at greater risk of infection. That being said, strep is a rather nasty infection that can cause significant short and long term issues. Even when healthy it is best to stay away from people with active strep.
