Atelectasis: Collapsed lung occurs in many situations, either due to blocked airways (due to a mucus plug, mass lesion or a foreign body) not allowing air to enter sections of the lung, or development of an air leak or fluid collection inside the chest that causes pressure on nearby lung causing it to collapse. Treatment depends on underlying cause. Talk to your doctor.

Air in wrong place: Pneumothorax is an accumulation of air outside your lung but inside your chest/ribcage. It is commonly described as a "collapsed lung" because the air in this space displaces your lung and prevents complete expansion of your lung. Small may be treated by observation, larger or progressing will require tube drainage.
