Depends on the : Reason for the cxr to begin with. If you were recently sick with pneumonia, it could just be left over changes, and you can repeat cxr in 3 months to double check. If there is suspicion for cancer (very unlikely in a 17 year old!), then get a ct to evaluate further.

Reason for collapse: Lung collapse or atelectasis can occur for many reasons asthmatics get collapse all the time during attacks becasue of mucus plugs in the airway.Sometimes aspiration of foreign body or food can cause atelectasis enlargement of nodes in chest by infection or tumor can get pressure on bronchi and atelectasis.Certainly a part of pneumonia may be volume loss. Persistent atel. May require bronchoscopy.
