Many things: Acute means new or sudden onset. Colitis can come from many things: infectious, ischemic, ulcerative, crohn's, etc. Each type of colitis may be treated differently depending on its cause. Needs a complete medical evaluation with their doctor to determine the best coarse of treatment.
