Chiari type 1: A chiari type malformation means the tonsils portion of the cerebellum extends through the foramen magnum of the skull if there are no symptoms of headaches or increased pressure on the brain, there is not likely to be any intervention. This situation should be followed by a neurologist, who will help you monitor for signs requiring intervention.
