Risk vs benefit: It's difficult to imagine any harm from 1 drink a month. How much liquor are you considering? Are you at risk for chemical dependency eg addictive personality? How close are you to competition? Do you have a designated drive (someone who promises not to drink any alcohol that evening so that s/he can safely drive you home)? Women are "allowed" up to 1 drink/d while men up to 2/d but don't average.
