A member asked:

If geographic tongue is a lifelong condition, can there be fairly long periods when you don't have it or does it always persist for life?

Sometimes- B12, Zinc: Geographic tongue is not necessarily a lifelong condition- it can often disappear. There is no single cause- it can have genetic tendencies, be caused by food sensitivities, toxins or imbalances of intestinal flora. Many find that vitamin B12 or zinc help. There is no guarantee these will help but they are safe to try-see http://collectivewizdom.Com/geographictongue-top10causesandcures.Html.

Yes, it's possible: Geographic tongue means that an area of the tongue loses some of the fine papillas on the surface of the tongue, then they grow back and then get lost on another area of the tongue. Usually there is no pain associated with this. There can be times when your tongue activity is normal and no loss/regrowth occurs.
