Yes, it's possible: Geographic tongue means that an area of the tongue loses some of the fine papillas on the surface of the tongue, then they grow back and then get lost on another area of the tongue. Usually there is no pain associated with this. There can be times when your tongue activity is normal and no loss/regrowth occurs.
