Ileal cancer: Ileum is part of the small intestine. It connects the small bowel to the colon. A mass inside that bowel will require surgery to remove. Prognosis depends on what kind of growth it is and where it is in the bowel wall.

Small bowel cancer: The ileum is what we call the second half of the small bowel- cancer here is rare and unfortunately aggressive. Typically treated with resection and chemotherapy depending on lymph node status and the presence of disease at distant sites (metastasis). Best treated at a cancer center with accreditation by the american college of surgery and/ or the national cancer institute.
