A member asked:

Mom is caregiver for elders in the family. now she has a problem. what does it mean to have interstitial pneumonia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Generally viral: This term applies to the pattern of inflammation present in the lungs and can have both infectious and non-infectious causes. When due to infection it is often viral, unless the patient is immuno-compromised, in which case pneumocystis may be a cause. There are other conditions not due to infectious agents.
