What causes such a behaviour/personality change ?

Many things: Drugs and alcohol are the most likely culprits. Mental illness like depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia are the next likely group. Lastly, brain tumors or seizures are rarely the cause. Head injuries are also a cause.
