A member asked:

History of migraines & carotidynia, having carotid headaches all day everyday for almost a week, today had headache w/ metallic taste in mouth. ideas?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Metallic taste: A metallic taste usually means that the nerve that helps with taste has been inflamed by whatever process that is causing the headaches. Migraines do not typically cause carotidynia. Carotidynia is a diagnosis of exclusion. This means that it is usually the last diagnosis after other processes have been ruled out. It is an inflammation of the carotid sheath and is painful to manipulation.
