Ferritin: Ferritin elevation can be a reactant, caused by inflammatory process. It can be an indication for iron overload. Ferritin level alone is not sufficient. Need to also look at the iron percent saturation to determine status of systemic iron level. If concern for iron overload, need to have hemochromatosis genetic tests. Your pcp will address that (or send to hematologist or gastroenterologist).

Probably good news: This is probably hemochromatosis, and it's very easy to treat with phlebotomy. It's actually good news; when the diagnosis is made and treatment instituted, patients feel much better. Untreated, it's lethal; of all such diseases, it's the easiest to treat effectively.
