Side to side: Side to side bends and stretches with a physical therapist would help. Cold water doesn't treat the cause of the pain but treating the sciatica may improve your foot pain.

Look up: The mackenzie position. It's very similar to "the cobra" in yoga. Lie flat on your stomach, then use your arms to push up and elevate your trunk, while keeping your hips on the floor.

Core Exercises: Typically core strengthening exercises are the best to help relieve pressure and forces in the spine. I would try and google some or look them up on youtube to see descriptions. If you can do them yourself, wonderful otherwise ask your doctor to get a referral to a good physical therapist for further assistance. You could try putting foot in cold water, likely it may help a little but not much.
