A member asked:

M blood work came back with a tsh level of 7.6. my doctor was concerned, referred me to an endo. endo is unconvinced of hypothyroid. is this normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

TSH is abnormal: Your TSH is mildly high, suggesting that your thyroid level may be low. It should be repeated, and you need a free T4 level to see if your thyroid level is truly low. There are temporary causes for low thyroid, so it is not unreasonable to wait a few months and recheck the levels to see if they are still low. Thyroid peroxidase antibodies would also be helpful to obtain.
