Distraction: Our central nervous system is in charge of so much input that focusing is what allows us to control the input. When you are inactive your focus is on your perceived pain. The distractions of every day life eliminate that pain focusing and voila- you feel better. Ben-gay, capsaicin ointment and implanted nerve stimulators all work to confuse our brain's pain processing center.
