Sort of: from my own experience I found that a barefoot "style" helped aese back and knee pain significantly. However, when I first used Nike Free shoes, they were TOO flexible and I got Achilles tendinitis. I switched to a similar, but slightly less aggressive shoie (nike Lunar series) and have been ecstatic ever since.
