I have herniated discs, lumber. i am getting worse, supposed to have surgery. when i have a bm, i get an intense pain in my back. is this emergent?

Probably not: If you experience changes in your bowel and bladder function, or have numbness in your buttocks, you may need to seek care emergently, otherwise simply pain with bowel movement by itself does not make the need for herniated disc surgery emergent.

Can not answer: Severe back pain with straining can occur with herniated discs. Only our doctor can answer your question which can only be answered with a guess without examining you. If you are concerned contact your surgeon.
