Fusion: There are a lot of things that going into determining if you need a fusion. Ideally, you would like to avoid a fusion if possible. Just having a disc hernia toon in and of itself doesn't mean you need a fusion.

Last resort: If it is your first recurrent disc herniation, a redo microdiscectomy may be best. A lumbar fusion is a major procedure that should be the last choice. Check out spine-health.Com.
