Ultrasound: Fibroids can be diagnosed on pelvic exam. Often an ultrasound is done to confirm the diagnosis. In some instances a pelvic MRI can be used to gain additional information prior to a surgical procedure to remove them.

Ultrasound, CT scan: Sometimes fibroids can be detected on pelvic exam, otherwise they are recognized with a pelvic ultrasound, ct scan of the pelvis or MRI of the pelvis.
