Hemorrhoids: Are likely the cause here.Avoid straining and pushing during a bowel movem.Take a stool softener and drink a lot of fluids if you are constipated. Bleeding should never be taken lightly. I would recommend making an appt with your family doc and possible referral to a GI doc for a detailed exam and rule out other serious causes. If bleeding is heavy or if you feel light headed you need to go to er.

Perhaps: Rectal bleeding should always be initially evaluated by a doctor. Yes it is certainly possible that it is hemorrhoids ( eat plenty of fiber daily) but other causes of rectal bleeding are common in your age group such as inflammation of the rectum (proctitis) or other causes. A scope that looks into the rectum will aid in the diagnosis and rule out serious causes.
