Not necessarily : Most often hemorrhoid tissue is remove for bleeding, pain or nearly obstructing the outflow of stool. Hemorrhoids that don't do any of these things will usually shrink down with time. There is a need to eliminate constipation though, the root cause of the problem.

Probably: Hemorrhoids are veins that can protrude through the anus. They can strangulate and clot if they protrude often enough. A proctologist or a surgeon can remove them in the office by putting a rubber band around them and then they just fall off. It isn't painful since the lining inside of the rectum is insensitive to pain. However, if they are external hemorrhoids the pain would be extreme.
