Cipro (ciprofloxacin): The only objective way to know if it's worked would be to repeat urine culture. If no growth is seen, then it did work. The pain in your wife's kidney area may, however, persist for a while, even when Cipro (ciprofloxacin) truly worked because of the residual inflammation that would take longer to resolve than the duration of Cipro (ciprofloxacin) treatment.

Uti: The burning pain on urinating and fever are better now. It means Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is working. The pain may take some time to subside. Good luck !

Kidney Inflammation : For pyelonephritis a 14 day course of antibiotics should get rid of the infection. However, kidney swelling can cause ongoing discomfort. Like a bruise after trauma, it will take time for the inflammation to go away; in the meantime, increase h2o, reduce caffeine/alcohol intake and avoid spicy/acidic foods to reduce irritation. Use nsaids and see md if not better when antibiotics are done.

See answer: If your wife has a true kidney infection, then these symptoms could mean that she needs imaging to look at the kidney. Review her urine culture from before treatment to ensure the bacteria are sensitive to cipro (ciprofloxacin). However, if she never had a fever, positive urine culture etc, she may not have had a true kidney infection to begin with and the pain could be from another cause. Speak with your doctor.

Kidney pain: Eight days are enough for Ciprofloxacin to take care of uti. No burning & fever is the proof. Pain in kidney, as you think, or some other part in abdomen is an other problem. May be kidney stone or some abdominal part effected! please see your doctor for us/ct scan of abdomen & pelvis. Good luck.
