Get 2nd opinion: Get a 2nd opinion in person, not just online like this. Both Methotrexate & Imuran (azathioprine) are immunosuppressants. As such, there are many risks as well as desired benefits. You didn't mention why you're taking mtx but it's important to discuss all your options w/your physicians(s), including newer versions if appropriate for your condition. Worth a try: It's possible that Imuran (azathioprine) would have less GI side effects.

Imuran (azathioprine): Reduce the dose of Methotrexate or Imuran (azathioprine) is a safe alternate . Follow your physician suggestions.
