Within 1-3 months: Imuran (azathioprine) is a drug used to suppress the immune system in many diseases. Monitoring liver function tests is used to detect hepatotoxicity, generally defined as elevated AST/ALT greater than twice normal. Dose reduction or split dosing, or use of allopurinol may minimize hepatoxicity, but the vast majority of patients will reverse the liver injury within 1-3 months after discontinuation of Imuran (azathioprine)
