Call your surgeon: These things although not typical, do happen. It may or may not warrant any further treatment. Only the surgeon who performed the procedure, after seeing it in person can answer your questions. Call the office, explain what you see and feel and ask whether or not he\she wants you to come in right away or wait until your next scheduled visit.

May be: Depending on the type of membrane used, exposing membrane, though undesirable, could be managed to achieve favorable outcome. If the membrane used is a dense ptfe membrane (dptfe), the outcome of the bone graft should be ok. If the membrane is collagen membrane, the outcome could be compromised but not failure. If the membrane is a unresorbable ptfe, prognosis is unfavorable. Keep area clean!

Depends: A common complication of bone grafting is incision-line opening, which can expose the underlying membrane. There are many different types of membranes, and exposure of some of them is more of a potential problem than others. If the membrane is kept clean, and there is no exudate, the underlying bone graft may be ok.
