A member asked:

What are the risks if the membrane my dentist put in after an extraction and bone graft comes out?

Depends: If it is just a piece of collagen to cover over the bone graft in an extraction socket and it has been in place for a few days, it should do just fine. If it is a true barrier membrane to prevent soft tissue ingrowth, the graft may fail becasue soft tissue grows into the graft itself. Ask your dentist what type of graft and the reason for the membrane to find out.

Failure: The membrane should stay to cover over the graft material until it solidifies. See your dentist right away.

Depends: Depends on what type it was and how long after being placed it came out. Might be nothing, but why take a chance. Call the office and ask.
