Don't count calories: This is a confusing topic because of how people misuse terms. Calorie is a measure of heat when something is burned. You can burn a piece of wood and get calories. With a typical diet you burn carbohydrates for energy(and excess is stored as fat). If you want to lose weight restrict your carbs (all starches and sugars). The average person only needs about 100-150 grams of carbs for a whole day.
