Depends on variables: If the kid can function within the demands of the classroom and benefit from the days instruction there is no reason to exclude him/her.

Not really: Depending upon the age of the child, he or she can return to school with the appropriate immobilization of the toe, using a surgical shoe or short leg cam walker. Certainly, the child will have to be excused from pe until he has been cleared by his doctor.

No need: As long as the toe is immobilized and in a protective shoe like a surgical shoe. Have him get a letter allowing him extra time to get to class.
