Bruised=need X-ray: The big toe has a major function taking on impact after heel strike. It also in propels your gait. Very prone to getting sore and bruised. It may be due to the bruising of accessory bones called "ossicles" they are small and round to ovoid in shape. At the base of the big toe near the ball of the foot we have 2 of these bones side by side. Exam + x-rays may reveal clues or even fracture.
