Depends on type: Hepatitis a is most common, causes nausea, vomiting & abdominal pain, but it's usually self-limited. Hepatitis b & c are both usually transmitted by dirty needles (tattoos, IV drug abuse) but can be sexually transmitted, and they are potentially long term problems. Some patients with these will develop chronic problems. There are vaccines for hep a & b.
