7 to 10 days: Most uncomplicated viral respiratory infections last 7 to 10 days. When a "cold" last longer than 2 weeks or is worsening rather than improving, then the person should be evaluated for possible sinus infection. Usually the worse symptoms of a cold are on day 3 or 4.
