Walking: Walking is a good exercise for you. Try to walk 2 miles a day and can do light weights using arms and legs but not loading the spine.

There is hope: After a major trauma like back fracture, you need an excellent diet, vitamin d, rest and pain control. This injury can reduce your immune system for a year. When your back is stable out of brace, the first exercise i recommend is water therapy. While you are restricted to 10 pounds handling, i recommend isometriic exercise on hands and knees. Walking in brace is always encouraged, to tolerance.
