Bells Palsy: Doctors dont know what causes Bells Palsy. We know the nerve gets inflamed and stops functioning correctly. Early treatment is important because the effects of Bells Palsy can be permanent. Many doctors prescribe prednisone, and sometime anti-viral medicine such as acyclovir, since it is theorized that a viral infection of the nerve may be a cause. Consult a doctor right away.
