Both: Both should be seen. One can help you with any necessary medications and the other is more likely to provide therapy. However, there are some psychiatrists who provide both medication and therapy depending upon their background and where they trained.

Anxiety treatment: I would start with a cognitive behavioral therapist. Consult nacbt.Org for a specialty trained therapist near you. She will then decide if you can be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy alone or if you also need medication. She should be able to refer you to a good psychiatrist, if needed. Good luck-this is a very treatable problem!

Both : Both the psychologists and psychiatrists treat phobias. However, psychologists treat phobias without medication, in other words they use psychotherapy to treat phobias. On the other hand, psychiatrists use medication to treat phobias if the symptoms are severe enough to warrant medication. However, psychiatrists tend not to do that much therapy.
