Tonsillitis: Tonsillitis is an infection. Infections are generally considered contagious. When you have an infection, you should avoid kissing as you could share your infection with your kidding partner. Bottom line is that you can certainly kiss with tonsillitis, but you risk spreading your infection around. Even coughing or sneezing is enough to spread some infections. Wash your hands often and get well.

Depends on Cause: If caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotics are needed. If caused by a viral infection, time improves. Other causes such such as allergies or trauma require specific interventions. See your doctor.

When you have infected tonsil and it's lymphoma can you kiss someone and they get tonsillitis?

Needs clarification: Infected tonsils and lymphoma are two completely different things (lymphoma is a type of cancer). Having said that, yes if one has an acute tonsillitis, they can spread it to someone if they are playing tonsil hockey (kissing) with someone else....[unfortunately that will be the only hockey we will see for awhile due to the nhl lockout :( ].

A 18-year-old female asked:

The day before i got tonsillitis i kissed someone, will he get it too?

Possibly: This depends on the cause of the tonsillitis, and the degree to which he was exposed and his immune status and prior exposure to whatever organism is causing your tonsillar inflammation. How do you know he did not give you the tonsillitis.
A 36-year-old member asked:

I kissed someone and the day after he was diagnosed with tonsillitis will i get it now too?

Cold: In most cases, tonsillitis is essentially just a cold. You could definitely get a cold from having kissed this person. If he has strep throat, you could get that too. Whether you will develop tonsillitis as well is impossible to predict.
