Eat well...: It's never too late to start eating well. At 45 with a history of diverticulitis, i'd recommend a broad diet with adequate fibre, and try to lower your fat content. It wouldn't hurt to add a cheap bulk laxative. You don't need to avoid seeds or salads, though I do suggest you limit your intake of nuts and popcorn - not an absolute moratorium, just not a daily diet. Good luck.

Better off: You had a colon resection. You were following a diet for diverticulosis. You are better off staying on the diet. Your surgery was emergent not planned. The surgery did not remove all of the diverticular disease. Staying on the diet is safe. Eat well and healthy. Exercise everyday. Continue to screen for cancer and stay vaccinated. I wish you well.

Yes.: Having had surgery doesn't mean you can't get diverticulosis in the remaining colon. You don't want another resection later in life, do you? You're young. Follow the diet forever.
