Stress: Exercise, listen to music, take a class at the gym for something you've never done before, go to a yoga class, learn to meditate, have candles burning with scents that you like. Think of your senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch and try to do something to enhance those senses.

Learn to relax: Learn some relaxation techniques when you are feeling less anxious and use them when the anxiety increases. Remind yourself that the anxiety will subside. Take a class in stress management, learn hypnosis or take yoga. Use it when the need arises.

Manage stress with: E-a-s-e. 1)eliminate the stressor from your life (be assertive; delegate; take breaks & vacations) 2)alter the impact of the stressor (problem solving; time management; social/group action); 3)shift your outlook (reduce unrealistic expectations, irrational beliefs & negative self-talk); & 4) ease your response (relaxation, exercise & good nutrition). Counseling can help.

Agree w Dr. Stewart: Ways to address stress. Talk about feelings ; address problems. Don't avoid them. Aim for 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep/ night. Daily physical activity is optimal in a green space. Eat healthfully. Cut out junk carbs, caffeine ; alcohol (or moderate). Try qi gong, tai chi, acupuncture, acupressure, homeopathy, meditation, yoga, exercise program, deep breathing exercises or progressive muscle relaxation.

It depends: On what is causing your stress. Preventing it or removing it when possible is the best. Many people are helpful by mindfulness training, meditation, guided imagery cds, yoga classes, chi gung, exercise, reading, etc. For long term benefit and better overall mental health, support from a good psychotherapist can be transformational.

Many ways: If you can find a quiet place - do so. Breath in slowly & deeply through your nostrils. Fill your lungs with air (but not to the point of discomfort). Hold for a count of five then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to. If you haven't been assessed for your panic/ anxiety - that would be prudent. Here a # of ways to address anxiety: >>.

How about jogging: Around the track? Are you good with a punching bag? Exercise is a great stress reliever. Any form of aerobic activity helps. Meditation, yoga, acupuncture, qi gong, deep breathing exercises & progressive muscle relaxation. Therapy can also be beneficial.
