A female asked:

what are the causes for extreme menstrual cramp pains?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Bryan Treacy
Gynecology 35 years experience
Variety of reasons: Cramping occurs due to formation of substances that cause smooth muscle contraction. Nsaids like advil (ibuprofen) etc block the formation of these substances which is why they can help with menstrual cramping. However, if cramping is severe, more serious issues may be lurking. If menstrual cramping is affecting activities of daily living, an evaluation is in order.

Menstrual cramps: Reasons for significant menstrual cramps can be endometriosis, cervical stenosis, uterine fibroids, adenomyosis ; pelvic inflammatory disease.

Duh!!!: You don't need to know because it will not help you care for yourself. Only if you are writing a research paper. For chronic pain begin a self-care with a wellness program of vits, magnesium glycinate, sleep hygiene, exercise, self massage, chiropractor, yoga, heat, epsom tub soaking, stretching all are needed. In my practice I use acupuncture and myofascial tissue release.
