Depends...: Fish oil only lowers triglycerides, and only if taken 30 minutes before a meal, a fact most people don't realize. The rise in LDL can be controlled with statins. Fish oil by itself has not been shown to reduce CAD risk. If you have high triglycerides, fish oil can help, as taken as above, if not you just smell like fish when you sweat!

Yes: The fish oil will be unlikely to raise your lipids. It they are elevated then diet and possibly a statin drug like Lipitor (atorvastatin) is needed.
