Yes bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is likel: Bactrim is likely to help. Penicillins like Amoxicillin work better for infections in the mouth. Please take some pain medicine as long as you have pain. You can take extra strength tylenol (acetaminophen) unless your doctor gave you something stronger for pain already. Good luck.

Dentist: A recurring tooth abscess usually requires a root canal. It will end the pain and fix the problem. In the meantime, antibiotics like Clindamycin can help along with a pain medicine like vicodin for a few days until you can see your dentist. Don't put it off! you can do this!

No: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not the antibiotic choice for dental infection. If you are allergic to penicillin your dentist will prescribe a different antibiotics. There are many dentist who are open on the weekends or have emergency services. If you have large swelling or problem breathing than you need to go to an urgent care center.
