Many, many years: Once infected, the virus hides out indefinitely. This constant presence makes the immune system continually produce the igg type of antibody to the virus. During the initial stages of the infection, your body makes the igm type of antibody, but this eventually is superceded by igg within a few weeks. Thus: 1st few days=igm+ igg-. After couple weeks=igm+igg+. After several weeks to years=igm-igg+.
