See answer: There are a number of tests that are used to find out whether a person is infected with HIV. These include the HIV antibody test, p24 antigen test and rapid tests. Antibody tests are extremely accurate in detecting the presence of HIV antibodies and most people develop detectable HIV antibodies within 6 to 12 weeks of infection, almost all by 3 months, and in very rare cases, 6 months.
